BNC connectors are not commonly talked about but they play a crucial role in communication. BNC connector cables are basically used for signal connections, ranging from analog and digital interface video signals, amateur radio antennas aviation electronics and test equipments. BNC cable connectors come in tow distinct makes that is; BNC connectors of Resistance 70 Ohms and 50 Ohms. Both are usable with cables of the same resistance and at a frequency of 2 and 4 respectively.
Why Use BNC Connectors and BNC Cable?
BNC cable are always preferred because of their mechanical compatibility with other electrical appliances. BNC connectors quality is consistent with 1978 standard, IEC 169-8, which concurs with the findings that a BNC connector can merge with other appliances with no or minimal damage. The connectors can be mono, Bi and Tri depending on their applications.
Twin BNC has two independent contact points namely male and female, which allows a 78 ohm or 95 ohm connector. BNC cables of this kind however cannot merge with other BNC Connectors.

Though its possible to merge a BNC cable of resistance 50H with another electrical compliance of resistance below resistance 70 ohms at a low frequency of 10MHZ, rise in frequency gradually makes them incompatible and may lead to signal reflections.
Signal reflection occurs when signal transmitted along the transmission medium reflects back signal power rather than transmitting it to the far end.
Country Specific Equivalents of BNC Connectors
The BNC cables have their equivalents depending on the country of origin. The difference is not mechanical, you can only notice the change in name and dimension. The BNC connectors of resistance 50 ohms and 70 ohms translate in Russia to R50 and R70 respectively.
Though the BNC cables have wide application in the electric world, they are gradually replaced by the LEMO 00 connector with higher density capabilities. This is so especially in particle physics and fast logic designs .They are of the same resistance with 50 ohms but the difference comes with its additional features.

However, BNC Cables and BNC Connectors are still widely used in domestic and business electrical appliances that require low frequencies such as surveillance systems or AV applications.
