BNC Cable – Important Uses

BNC Cable is used for media tools like the television and the radio.  In general, cables are wires running side by side, braided, twisted or bonded together to form one single wire. The wires are covered in protective jackets to stop electric currents from electrocuting someone. These cables are more known to people for connecting a television cable. Although usually used for that cause, there are other times when the cables are used for different purposes.

BNC Cables are responsible for the quality of video or audio you are going to see and hear. It is also used for surveillance cameras, helping users to have a clearer and better view of what was recorded. The cable does not only connect, but lets you connect your device to a monitor or to raise the volume of the audio, but it can also help you to connect to the internet. You only have to have the RJ-45 Transceiver, which can be easily bought.

The cable is made of the coaxial cable, one of the most powerful cables of the time. Like any power cord, it runs on electric current and requires an electricity source. The current runs in alternation. As one goes to one conductor, the other returns to the source. The BNC Cable also carries radio frequency current. This requires special construction for prevention of power losses.

To prevent power loss, the BNC Cable has one of its conductors formed into a tube to enclose the other conductor. As a result, radio waves sent from the central conductor is confined on the space inside the tube.

The spacing of the conductors must be constant throughout the length of the cable. If there are any changes on it, it is highly possible that radio frequency would be reflected back to its source. This would reduce the amount of power reaching the endpoint of the cable. To make sure that the spacing is even, dielectric, a semi-grid plastic, is filled in the spaces between.

The coaxial cable has different types, each different on materials used and dimension. The cables should have 50 and 75 ohms, and this cannot be changed. This would prevent reflections from causing standing waves, a state where the waves are not moving at all.

BNC Cable Uses

The cable is used for capturing and sending signals for receiving analog and series digital interface video signals, amateur radio antennas, avionics and test equipment. The test equipment is used to create signals and capture responses from DUTs, just like in the other three pieces of equipment. It is also called ‘test-gear’ or ‘bench top’. The cable is an alternative to the RCA when used for commercial videos.

It can also be used for different purposes, but its main purpose is to receive and send signals. The cable can also be connected to anything, ranging from your entertaining television to a doctor’s oscilloscope.

Using BNC Cable for CCTV cameras

BNC connectors are the most common connector types for CCTV cameras. It is a good choice for CCTVs because it is easy to install and are durable enough. Crimped BNC Connectors are cheaper, and are easier to install, but they are not as effective as compression-style BNC connectors. If you are looking for ideal BNC connectors for CCTV cameras, look for compression-style connectors.

BNC Cables are one of the most useful and powerful wires of today; with its use, television shows, and the like are transferred.
